"The fact that their funds come with no strings attached is to me the most amazing part of GiveDirectly. They transform lives, while asking for nothing in return, yet making dreams a reality for recipients. All I would ask is that they continue with their good work and consider adding more transfers to past recipients, at a later date."

received a $435 second payment.
"I am a trained welder and ever since I graduated from collage, I have wanted to open my own workshop since being employed never worked for me due to low wages. Although I have never been able to raise enough capital to start my own business, I am looking forward to start saving towards the same. Being able to open my own workshop means that I will be able to pay school fees for my children and cater for other basic needs."

"The initiatives that GiveDirectly allows recipients to begin and complete, are truly life changing. I would only wish that they continue to offer assistance to all those who are needy and transform their lives as much as they have mine"

Mercy
received a $435 second payment.
"Since I am the bread winner of five, I am planning to practice subsistence farming for a living. I will buy a larger piece of land since I do not own one as at now. In the past years I had been hiring the land for farming which was quite expensive as I used it only during rainy season. With the good harvest of maize, beans, tomatoes and onions , my lifestyle will be better as I will be able to provide basic needs for my family since I will be selling out some of them when produced in excess. I also have a plan of raising livestock like chicken, sheep and goats. Currently I have some few chicken, in the coming year and beyond I will add more for sale. I will be selling out the eggs and for consumption."

"My goal is to fully pay for the 1.5 acre piece of land for my son. He is currently staying at my maternal home and it is not stable. I have a balance of kshs 70,000 that I intend to clear. I'll really be settled if I accomplish this in the near future."

Fatuma
received a $450 second payment.
"I'm a widow, who inherited land from my husband, which I haven't been tilling since the drought has been prevailing. I'm a mother of 10 and by God's grace, all 9 apart from my youngest have married and started families. My youngest is looking to start colleague and a bulk of the transfers from GiveDirectly went towards building him his own house within our homestead. The remainder went to food for us, as well as clothes, since we were in dire need of a wardrobe overhaul. I am eternally greatful for GiveDirectly giving me an opportunity to meet and surpass some of my goals."

"GiveDirectly goes above and beyond when it comes to actively changing the lives of recipients. That statement in it self says it all, they excel at improving lives. All I can add to that is that I wish they never stop helping the less fortunate and that if possible, they keep assisting the recipients, even beyond the 2nd transfer, so they can continue with the projects they started."

"When I got the promise that I would receive cash from GiveDirectly, I knew this was a perfect opportunity for me to transform my life. In the coming year and beyond, I aspired to start a goat-rearing business by purchasing a goat at $25 every month. I have four goats so far and plan to have several in the future and possibly also include cows. This is because of the ease with how they mature fast and when the need arises, I sell."
