Maurine
received a $339 third payment.
"Once, I got $450 from GiveDirectly. I was really happy and thankful. I used $100 to get an acre of land and bought bean seedlings for farming. This will help me make more money for my poultry farm. With $37, I bought food because we needed it at home for me and my two kids. The rest of the money, I saved for emergencies and to help run my farm better."

"This year, my main objective is to renovate my house. The one I currently live in is quite old, with a roof that leaks severely during heavy rains, urgently needing replacement. To achieve this, I plan to utilize my savings along with any additional funds I receive. The prospect of having a better living space brings me immense satisfaction, and I'm truly thankful for this opportunity to improve my home."

"Source of reliable income is the challenge I am currently facing in life. My husband does casual jobs at the coastal towns and I do subsistence farming. He earns little income that caters for food and school fees. The husband has now taken three months without accessing any job. This has made my children miss classes for two weeks now due to school fees."

Alice
received a $396 second payment.
"I allocated $400 from the transfer to purchase water pipes and establish a connection to our neighbour's water source, inspired by the convenience enjoyed by neighbouring households with piped water. Previously, I had to buy water at $0.1 per 20-liter jerrican, costing me $1 daily due to the needs of my large family of 14, including 12 children and us parents. Acquiring the transfer from GD allowed me to install the water connection, bringing water directly to our doorstep. This has saved us the daily expense and effort of fetching water. It also facilitated the irrigation of vegetables for our domestic consumption, reducing our expenditure on buying vegetables regularly. This improvement brings me great joy. Moreover, the availability of water has ensured that our four goats have adequate drinking water, which was previously limited.
With the remaining funds, I purchased food supplies to ensure that my family had enough to eat, particularly given the poor harvest from our two-acre maize farm due to drought conditions, resulting in only one sack of maize. Ensuring an ample food supply is essential, especially considering the young age of my children, and I find it distressing when they go without enough to eat."

"In Endao village, located in Baringo county, GiveDirectly has brought about a remarkable change in the local economy through their transfers. People now have money, and the transformation is evident. I witness houses being constructed, and individuals are able to afford better clothing. From what I've observed, GiveDirectly hasn't made any errors that would make me recommend a change in the program. Their impact is clear, uplifting the community and improving lives in a straightforward yet powerful way."

"I thank givedirectly for helping us directly. It's better than all the organisations that help people who are affected by disaster . I recommend the same process elsewhere."
