"In my opinion, Give Directly has the best services in terms of sending their cash transfers to their recipients mobile money accounts. All their services from enrollment to sending the cash transfers are outstanding. I am afraid that from my point of view, there is nothing that Give Directly could possibly change."

"Of the transfer received, I used $260 to buy supplies to build a house for my grandson whom I have been raising since his young age, and we have been sharing a one-room home. Now that he’s grown into a young man, it is inappropriate to sleep with him in the same house and this has been incredibly depressing seeing him in an uncomfortable situation and yet we could do nothing about it. He still doesn’t know that I have built him his own house and I can’t wait to see the joy on his face once I break the good news to him. This house will be my Christmas present to him and a reward for completing his secondary school education. In addition, I paid my grandson's outstanding school tuition with $100. He is currently taking his final secondary school examinations. I also bought a she goat for $40 to supplement my existing herd so they would multiply and one day be traded for cows. The rest of the money was spent on food and utilities."

Jumwa
received a $360 second payment.
"Before joining the program, I found refuge in a grass-thatched hut that demanded constant repairs. Its small size meant that every rainstorm posed a significant threat to my belongings. The tedious task of replacing the grass added to the challenges. Throughout this, my enduring aspiration was to build an iron-roofed house, free from the struggles of my current shelter. The financial assistance from GiveDirectly marked a turning point in my life, allowing me to realize this dream. A substantial portion of the funds was allocated to purchase 24 iron sheets, building materials, poles, nails, and timber. With these resources, I successfully constructed my long-desired iron-roofed house. Moving into this new dwelling, once a distant dream, filled me with immense happiness. The program accelerated this achievement, sparing me the years it would have taken through personal efforts alone.
In addition to securing my own home, I also allocated $100 to clear my grandson's school fees. This crucial support ensured he could remain in class, continuing his education after settling the outstanding arrears. Education is a priority for me, and I am grateful to GiveDirectly for aiding in the realization of this goal. Furthermore, a portion of the funds was utilized to purchase essential foodstuffs such as maize flour, ensuring that my family would not face hunger."

"my main aspiration is to construct a permanent house since the one I use at the moment is old and it was made of mud-walled with corroded iron sheets. Also, my goal is to look for more money and take my children to high school where they can get quality education. Am confident that with dedication and hard work, this vision can be successfully realized."

Gloria
received a $295 third payment.
"A glimmer of hope arrived in the form of GiveDirectly's support of the unconditional cash transfer. With my first and second transfer, I prioritized my children's education and food. Aside from that, I started a shop and a posho mill, which is greatly supporting my family. The income from these businesses enabled me to plant fruit trees (mangoes and pawpaws) since they do so well in the area. and also started my fencing project to envision a thriving homestead and to protect my farm. When I received my third and last transfer therefore, I spent $90 to complete the fence. In addition, I spent $90 on clothing for my five children to replace the stitched old clothes that they had. My husband who works as a teacher and the family's breadwinner really struggles to raise our children's school fees and also the other family needs. Understanding the importance of education, and ensuring my children thrive and succeed in school, I decided to buy each one of them encyclopedia revision books worth $60 to empower them and create a bridge to success. Lastly, I improved my Posho mill and and shop by buying additional stock for a total of $220. I am grateful to Give Directly for making things possible. From the meagre earnings I used to make from collecting and selling aloe vera leaves in order to meet some of the household needs like food, I can confidently say that my home has become a beacon of success in the village and an attractive admiration of hope."

"Housing is the challenge I am currently facing in life. I have a family of nine members and all live in a one room house. My first daughter Judy is now grown up and she has to have her own room. I feel embarrassed in the community because it is not good to share a room with such a grown up girl. The house also serves as a kitchen. I feel disturbed psychological."
