Sidi
received a $25 tenth payment.
"I aim to educate my children. I have five children in school and the budget for their school fees is above mine and my husband's earnings. My husband sells water in Mombasa and the money he earns takes care mainly of food due to the drought that was persistent. This being a basic need we found ourselves neglecting to pay school fees due to a lack of the finances and this would keep our children out of school. Now I see that through this transfers my children will get education and be able to have a fighting chance."

William
received a $25 tenth payment.
"As I said earlier I have seven children and they all live at home. My children sleep in their uncle's house, my younger brother, and their grandmother's house because my house is not sufficient for them to live in. I want to use the savings that I make monthly to begin a project of building a house for my children. I want to build a two room house that will be sufficient for all the 7 of them even as they go through school and try to get a footing for themselves. I am hoping by the end of the year I will have began building so that I can use the coming years transfer to finish the structure."

Salim
received a $25 tenth payment.
"I am now a father of one. I had no family when Givedirectly came in but now things have changed. I need to put a lot of focus on nurturing my young family. I am also not working at the moment as my employer asked me to take time off after my wife gave birth. I want to build a sustainable business through animal rearing that I can depend on when need arises. I want to use my savings to buy animals maybe goats which will multiply and I cans ell to get a dairy cow whose milk I can sell and get income. I also want to get a drivers license and so I hope to use the savings to also pursue this by paying for driving school."

Ajabu
received a $394 initial payment.
"It was Thursday evening, and I was busy working on my farm when I received the notification message. I went home and requested that my son read it to me because I couldn't read. He confirmed to me that it was a Mpesa message from Segovia Technologies, in which GiveDirectly officers mentioned that we would receive the money from there. This reaffirmed to me, with a smile on my face, that we are beginning a new chapter in our lives. For the longest time, my two children have not slept at our house because they are all grown up now, one in the fourth grade and the other in the eighth grade. They have been going to the neighborhood while schools are closed because a one-room house would not be a suitable place for all of us."

Rael
received a $129 initial payment.
"The biggest change in my life is that I am no longer required to sell my goats in order to meet my other requirements. Despite the drought, we are currently irrigating our farm in Marigat with the support of the cash we received from Givedirectly, and we are optimistic that in the near future, we will harvest some food for family consumption. I was also able to employ and pay someone to prepare my land for tilling."

Targok
received a $143 initial payment.
"Of the transfer, I spent about $80 on food for my family. Almost all of the crops we planted died due to the terrible drought, so we now have to buy food. In addition to the few goats I already have as savings for the future, I also spent $50 on an additional goat for rearing. I spent the remaining money on clothing and transportation to and from the cashing out place after giving my husband and daughters a token of $10 each."

George
received a $143 initial payment.
"The biggest change in my life since the transfer is that we are no longer so much concerned with where and how we will get our next meal. At my age, I might not be able to do much other than sell my goats to make enough money to support my family. I'm happy because, in addition to not selling my livestock, I also added three more goats to my herd, and that my family had food to eat!"

Regina
received a $143 initial payment.
"I received a notification message that I had received $200 from Givedirectly as we had been promised when I was on my way back back to my home from the school where I volunteer as a teacher. I praised God silently for Givedirectly and prayed for his blessing to Givedirectly as I was overcome with joy."
