Dorcas
received a $391 second payment.
"I paid $13 for a female calf that I feel will provide money in the near future. I was overjoyed to acquire our own cow since in our location, having to buy milk from the neighbors demonstrates a greater case in point of poverty, and so this protected us from this embarrassment.
The tansfer provided me with the chance to build an extra room for hosting my visitors. Previously, I had only one room that served as both a sitting room and a bedroom at the same time, making it small and devoid of privacy. After finishing the house for a total of $24 on everything, I felt confident in hosting anyone. Finally, I could not have spent the transfer in all of those ways if I had not purchased food. We tried our best the previous year to try farming, but we did not have as much as anticipated, resulting in a shortage, so we had to work extra hard on our casual jobs to help us financially. We did not use any fertilizer when growing the crops because we did not have enough money to buy the fetilizers, so we decided to plant it without. This year, I am pleased to have used fertilizers, and we anticipate a better harvest than last year."

Zawadi
received a $26 ninth payment.
"Since we have been living in extreme poverty, I have not been able to increase the size of my livestock. However, with the assurance of my transfers, I hope to improve my livestock keeping. I will prioritize buying additional goats and improving my poultry farming. Currently, I only have one goat and two hens. With an increase in the number of goats and domestic fowls, raising cash for school fees and other emergency needs will not be a struggle for me. Presently, I feel more stressed when we have a need that requires an immediate financial commitment."

Chepkoech
received a $391 second payment.
"Giving us unconditional transfers has been quite beneficial, and it was an exceptional opportunity for those of us who benefited. We were able to meet our own needs the best way we could without having to worry about any conditions or even returning the money to the organization.
This created a lot of trust in us and even encouraged us to be more mindful with the money we were given."

Shyline
received a $391 second payment.
"I've been longing for a new and fresh life for myself; I want to do things differently every day, so I decided to return to school, which was only feasible because of Give Directly transfers.
As a wife and mother of one, seeing my small family grow encourages me to do better every day. I took a leap of faith and decided to start a new business, so I went to school to learn to tailor, which was $200 for the entire course.
I then spent $200 on a sewing machine to start the business, and $100 on food for the family to last a month."

Paulo
received a $392 second payment.
"In recent years, subsistence farming in our community has become increasingly challenging, and even significant investments in farm inputs may not guarantee a successful harvest. However, with the help of GiveDirectly's first and second transfers, I have been able to change my approach to daily activities and focus more on livestock farming, which is more promising and less risky due to the unpredictability of the weather. With the second transfer, I spent $150 on purchasing three sheep that I plan to breed and sell alongside my other livestock in the future. Although the drought destroyed my maize field, which I have now converted to a livestock field, I spent $60 on purchasing farm inputs and hiring help. I also spent $51 on foodstuffs that I am still using, as I am currently living alone. Finally, I used the remaining amount to boost my retail business in the nearby shopping center, which has been successful after increasing my stock and attracting more customers who would otherwise have gone to other shops with more stock. I am grateful to GiveDirectly for their support, which has helped me to improve my life and provide for my family."

Samwel
received a $392 second payment.
"GiveDirectly is performing admirably in offering financial support to those who require it. The fact that we had never received aid before is evidence of the organization's ability to assist people in an impartial manner. The open enrollment procedure, which requires no contacts to participate in the program, emphasizes GiveDirectly's dedication to equality and impartiality. There was a palpable level of professionalism that ensured that every individual had an equal opportunity to benefit from the program. Finally, the liberty to utilize the cash transfer in any way that suits our individual circumstances is essential in empowering us to make informed decisions. In general, the success of GiveDirectly in our locality demonstrates their commitment to eradicating poverty and supporting vulnerable populations."

Mercy
received a $406 second payment.
"I put the most recent transfer that I received to cover the most pressing needs in our household. I spent $250 on secondary school fees for my son and daughter. As a farmer on leaseholds in Nakuru County, where my husband is currently employed, and a small business owner of a restaurant in a local shopping center, I have relied on both incomes to pay for my children's education. I was able to ensure that my children's schooling was not disrupted by this recent transfer. I also spent $200 to buy a cow. I made this purchase with the idea of supplementing my family's income in the future. I also spent $200 to buy a cow. I made this purchase with the idea of supplementing my family's income in the future. As a farmer, I already owned two cows but needed another to boost milk output and sell to earn extra money. This cow will also help me pay for future school fees. Finally, I utilized the remaining monies to buy food for my family of six. I invested the recent transfer in my children's future education, generating more income while also ensuring appropriate sustenance for my family."

Katana
received a $26 sixth payment.
"I have always desired to own cows but financial constraints and lack of relevant resources have been a major obstacle. There are so many benefits that I could rip from owning cattle. I could sell the milk they produce as well as hire them out for plowing tasks to raise funds. However, the far my income, from selling chewing sticks, can take me is secure food for my wife and four children; I cannot afford to buy cows with it. In the next few years, I hope to have saved enough money from the cash transfers to obtain at least 5 calves and let them grow. "

Ramson
received a $26 fourteenth payment.
"My wish is to pull my family out of poverty and lift the heavy burden off of my mother’s shoulders. She has suffered for a long time and struggled to make charcoal to provide for my five siblings and me; it is time I took over. After I complete high school this year, I want to initiate a project of rearing goats and cows. I believe that building wealth through livestock is the surest way to bring prosperity to my family. As the herd grows, I could sell some of these animals to support the education of my five siblings who are still in primary school. "

Benard
received a $406 second payment.
"From the pharmacist and bursar jobs that my wife and I engage in, we save $350 monthly toward the purchase of land. We have since saved $650 out of the $1800 needed for this 1.25 acres of land at Olbutyo. We are hopeful that we will clear these arrears before the year ends and, hence, initiate constructing rental houses and business premises that will earn income for the family of four."
