What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest challenge I am facing now is finance. As I told you earlier, our main source of income is cacual labour market. My spouse left me here with three children, catering to the children without a sustainable source of income is challenging. Since two years now I have been taking the challenge to take care of the kids, situation is becoming worse for me as a single mother. Many times, my kids are unable to complete the academy year because I don't have the finance to pay their fees. The presence of GiveDirectly here today mains that my situations will change from worse to Good. Many thanks to GiveDirectly and her partners for this initiative to transform lives.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Two months ago, I worked on my neighbour cocoa farm for two week. After a week long work, she surprised me with a bag of 25 kg rice. I was so happy because I hardly buy rice by bag. My children still have some of the rice, this really help us because a bag of 25 kg rice here is 4500 which is equivalent to 25 USD.
What does receiving this money mean to you?
Let me first of all take this time to welcome You in our community. My name is Alice Teah and I am 35 years old. My spouse and I have three children and I am the only person responsible for the kids now because he left me here and went to the Ivory coast since two year in search of a job and has not return. My only source of income is cacual labour, I wakeup early in the morning to work on cocoa farmes and later return in the evening before I prepared meal for us.
I was not fortunate to acquire formal education because my parents were poor and could not afford to send me to Fishtown or other cities where at the time were the centers of educational attraction. I am passionate to educate my children because I don't want them to grow up illiterate like me. GiveDirectly, present here today makes me happy because I will use portion of the transfer to pay my children fees in school if I become eligible
