Christina
received a $436 second payment.
"My dream was to build a new kitchen. I was feeling embarrassed and disappointed every moment I was cooking. It is expected that food should be cooked in a clean and neat environment but that remained a wish for me. I never had the financial muscle to build a better kitchen. Having received my second transfer, I used KES 40000 to build an iron sheet thatched roof kitchen. This has made me calm and enjoy cooking. My last-born daughter Mercy was sitting for her diploma exam and was required to pay KES 6000 examination fees. This money helped me pay her examination fees without struggle."

Christina
received a $422 second payment.
"In my opinion, GiveDirectly does well by giving support in form of cash. This gave me an opportunity to spend the money in the ways I felt most comfortable with. Looking at the two houses that I was able to build and the dairy cow that I bought too makes me so much happy as a person who has no one else to look up to for support. The amount of happiness exhibited by my children is just overwhelming and I am so happy about it. I can only look forward towards making more improvements for my family."

Furaha
received a $28 sixth payment.
"As it is true that all that has a beginning always has its end, I know that GiveDictly's program will soon come to an end. Therefore, I have a goal of prioritizing some investments. Since the most viable venture in our region is livestock keeping, I aim to buy additional two goats this year. When they increase in number after a given period, I shall be able to have some source of income. It will be simple for me to start raising cows after selling some goats. In addition, I want to build a kitchen so that my kids may have a place to hang out when they become older in addition to using it for cooking."

Hellen
received a $436 second payment.
"When I received my second transfer of $550, I used $450 to buy a piece of land. I had managed to save some amount from the first transfer and I also had other savings from a savings plan that I joined within the village. I combined all the money that I got from the merry go round contribution and the second transfer and bought the piece of land. I made a decision to buy a piece of land since we have been staying in a very small piece of land that I bought with my own money in the recent past. My desire was to get some extra money and expand the said piece of land and be able to advance my agricultural activities such as poultry keeping and even dairy keeping. I normally run a small business that would not allow me to do such mega investments since the amount of money that I make from the said business would provide me with just enough to feed my family and probably pay school fees for one of my children who just concluded her secondary school studies. I then used an amount that I was left with of almost $100 to clear school fees for one of my children who has just concluded her secondary school studies. I am looking forward to making more money and being in a position to buy an extra piece of land too."

Charo
received a $28 fourteenth payment.
"Because of the meager income my wife and I realize from burning and selling charcoal, we have been thinking about other alternative income sources. Therefore, as I continue to receive my transfer this year, my primary goal is to raise a herd of cattle. This goal comes second to supporting my children's education. I have five goats that I have bought with the previous transfers. However, I aim to buy more before the current ones begin to reproduce. I would wish to build a new house. The current one is old, and one side is falling off. It will shield my family from extreme weather conditions due to unpredictable weather patterns."

"The unconditional transfer that we have received from GiveDirectly has really helped a lot of people in my village to meet all their basic needs accordingly. In my opinion, GiveDirectly only does good and there is nothing wrong GiveDirectly does."

Kabibi
received a $421 second payment.
"First off am grateful for the cash transfers as they played a huge role in keeping all my children in school throughout the entire period last year. Unfortunately, there was no more cash to fund their school fees this year, which sadly hindered two of them from resuming classes earlier this year. To date, they are required to pay a total tuition fee of $580, which I cannot afford. Seeing them remain behind as their siblings and peers attend school breaks my heart; I wish I would do something about it, but I cannot. My greatest accomplishment would be to return these two children to school by clearing the balances. I mostly wish that Give Directly would support me a little longer till I was stable enough to fund all my children’s school fees. "

Jumwa
received a $421 second payment.
"Through the cash transfers, I built a spacious house and kept Kazungu in college. These accomplishments would have otherwise not been possible were it not for Give Directly. Hence, according to me, the act of giving money to needy people is the greatest to have ever been done by Give Directly. I would not say there is anything wrong with how the organization operates. "

Bendera
received a $421 second payment.
"The cash transfers allowed me to secure two goats, which later increased to three after one of them gave birth. Though I believe that the herd will expand when these goats reproduce, I would be happier if I bought more to grow the number further. My aim is to exchange some of them for cattle later. Altogether, am certain these animals will raise enough money in the future to cover my needs. "
