"I had plans of using this money to build myself a better house since my old one was quite old and the iron sheets were always leaking when it rained. That is why after I got the chance to withdraw transfers I went ahead and purchased about twenty bags of cement which cost me KES 12,000. I then proceeded to spend KES25,200 and buying twenty pieces of iron sheets. I also decided to buy two goats which cost me KES 8,000 and proceeded to spend the remaining balance on nutrition."

"Since I got married more than 30 years ago, I had not had the privilege to own and sleep on proper modern bedding that is a bed and a mattress. The only time when I could enjoy that is when I visited our relatives in town. I had desired to own proper bedding since the old traditional thread-twisted bed and mat were uncomfortable. Every morning, I felt body pain all over which impacted my daily work negatively. I spent the recent transfer to acquire proper bedding and currently enjoying my night waking up fully re-energized. In addition, I spent part of the remaining amount seeking proper medical care for myself due to the backbone problem that had been disturbing me for a while. Also, I bought food and clothing with the remaining part because I was putting on old and torn clothes that were making me uncomfortable during community gatherings."

"I spent $450 on paying school fees for my children in various schools and colleges, I have two children in secondary school and two in the university. I am so happy because they were able to study well without being sent home like before. This was affecting their performance in school. Paying school fees gave me a piece of mind since I had time to do my daily activities without being stressed up like before. The remaining amount of money I spent on food, clothes and other basic household items that we were lacking at that time. I am so grateful because GiveDirectly made our work much easier than before."

"In my opinion, GiveDirectly did well in sending cash transfers to poor households in the village. First, the training that they gave us during the early stages helped us to better understand the program. I feel the program was well conducted and there is nothing I can recommend for improvement."
