"We spent $ 300 to pay school fees for my two children who are in secondary school. I had fee balances amounting to $50 and one of my children just joined secondary school. The $300 that I paid was able to clear school fees arears and at the same time paid ahead for the two for one year. Without GiveDirectly, we would have entirely depended on my husband who works as a driver which would always end up straining the little income that he makes. We are so grateful for the support thus received from GiveDirectly and for what it has done for us as a family. The remaining amount of $250 was used to buy food and clothes for my family. The money came at a time that the cost of living was very high and putting food on the table for the family was such a to ll order. It provided so much relief to not only me but my entire family."

"I am the mother of six children in various stages of development. My three eldest children are all married and have two or more children. My fourth and fifth children both work in Mombasa, while my youngest has just graduated from high school and is looking for work. I say this to demonstrate to you how much I value education. As a result, a portion of the GiveDirectly funds were used to pay school fees for four of my grandchildren at Migumomiri Primary School. I also decided to try my hand at cattle farming for the first time and purchased a female cow. The most significant project as a result of the GiveDirectly funds was the construction of my one-bedroom house. I also made a point of including a a verandah in the plans to ensure that I have somewhere to sit on warm evenings and sunny afternoons. The most recent major purchase was food. Growing cassava, maize, and other cereals on a 3-acre farm has been impossible due to the ongoing drought. As a result, I must ensure that we have enough to last as a family."

"I used $300 to clear school fees for my two children who were both in secondary school and used the remaining amount to advance my farming practices and to buy food for my family. The money came at a time that I was struggling to pay school fees for my children after my husband passed on a year a go leaving me with all the responsibilities of raising the family."

"The biggest difference in my daily life is that I am now happier than I have ever been. There were a lot of plans that I always wanted to accomplish but which I would not accomplish because of lack of finances. Though we do not have many dependants looking up to me, getting enough money to start a project has not been so easy for us as a family. We feel lucky and happy to have been part of the beneficiaries of GiveDirectly program."

"The biggest difference in my daily life is the clraity of vision and plans that I now have. For a long time, we had desired to build a new and better house for my family and we had even saved up to $200 from our farming practices. Our plans are now more clear having received a transfer from GiveDirectly. We are set to start buying building materials and construction of this new house shall start soon too. Putting up this house shall make me and my family happier than we currently are."

"I now want to open a store where I will sell stuff that sells quickly, like food and clothing. After observing that we must go a considerable distance to reach some stores, I came up with this proposal. There are only two unreliable stores in the entire hamlet since their owners do not have enough money to adequately fund them. Once I get the business going, I'm confident that it will help me support my family and pay for my kids' college education."

"We appreciate GiveDirectly's hard effort, which was fair to all the village people. We received excellent training during the first meeting that helped us understand what was required of us before registration. We were able to prepare and make judgments after reading the fly cards that we received and listening to the training during the first meetings. Every stage of the process was appreciated, and we look forward to receiving more in the future."

"GiveDirectly performed exceptionally well in our village and is still doing so in the other villages they are presently recruiting. I'm appreciative of how the transfer impacted my home significantly. When the officers visited us, they were ready to help and always willing to explain and clarify the procedure. I am appreciative of the support and wish to see it in other villages, but I have no complaints."

"My husband is old and can no longer work to support our family. For that reason, I took the responsibility to raise my 6 children and my spouse single-handedly. I have been relying on charcoal burning to support the family which is Labourious and low paying. I used most of the income from charcoal vending to feed and educate our children leaving other needs unattended. For many years, we have been living in a small grass-thatched house without any partition, I was forced to move our bedding out during the day to get a space to cook since my house was very tiny. I used the recent transfer to construct a decent two-roomed, iron-roofed house for the family. Currently, we are happy living in a decent house. Additionally, I used $200 to pay for school fees for my 2 children who are in secondary school. They were always staying at home due to lack of fees which bothered me a lot."

"In my opinion, Givedirectly did well in visiting every household and offering them training before allowing them to participate in the program. Furthermore, it was voluntary to be included in the program and no one was coerced. I do not see anything that the organization did not do well and the transfers were very supportive of many poor households in our villages."
