"GiveDirectly did well in choosing to come to our village and assist the poor households. I loved the fact that they issue mobile phones that has easier communication in our area since owning one was a great struggle for some of us. Also,
it was voluntary and it requires one to consent by signing first before enrollment into the program. I feel the processes were good and easy to follow, there is nothing I think they need to improve on since everything went well."

"The transfers came as a blessing to our family. We were going through a tough season where the cost of living had gone up and threatened our existence. We never had milk for household consumption and so the idea of purchasing a dairy cow had crossed our minds only that we didn't have the means. GiveDirectly transfers were a big enabler, we used the money to purchase a dairy cow. We were in dire need to have a cow for milk production and for posterity so that we could remember GiveDirectly with it in the future. We purchased a cow worth KES 30000 and the rest of the money to buy clothing."

"GiveDirectly assisted me well, the officers of give directly spoke to me well, understood me, and were very patient and helpful. My only wish is that give directly can have their transfers regularly .We still have a lot of aspirations to achieve or fulfill"

"We have a small piece of land, and to be able to produce enough for our family, we have to rent from others, and we don't get manure because we don't own any livestock. We have to do casual labour to raise money to buy inorganic fertiliser, which is expensive, and we are not able to get as much as we need.
We don't have access to capital to start a business, we approached Sacco ( Saving and Credit Cooperative) to ask for a loan but we failed to provide a mortgage because we didn't have a land at that time thus we didn't get the money we wanted."

Catherine
received a second payment.
"Ever since I was married to my husband who is a police, I have been a housewife. My long life desire has been to open a business and become financially independent. Since my husband doesn't earn much and he's the only breadwinner to our family of seven, he has not been able to give me the capital to start a business. When I received my first transfer, I bought a piece of land in the nearby market that I am planning to build a temporary shop but because I didn't manage to pay all the amount, I spend $200 of my second transfer to pay the balance. I also spend $200 of my second transfer to pay school fees for two of my children and spend the balance to buy food."

"The main challenge I am facing is that my house is very old and when it rains the rain pass through the walls and reach inside which is a big challenge. When I try to cover it with mud it doesn't last. When the rain period arrives it's really hard for me."

"I am planning to start up a small business supplying maize to boarding schools. I usually do it although to homesteads on order. In the near future, I will be expanding and mostly the deliveries will be done by the motorcyclist as they will be in large quantities. The profits from the business will be taking care of my kids' school fees."
