"Since GiveDirectly came to our village, a lot changed in terms of livelihood. Previously, many people lived in old structures with mud walls and grass roofs. Since then, housing conditions have improved, and every household now has a better house roofed with iron sheets. No one had a water tank, and we all spent a lot of time walking to the river to get water, but after the transfers, a large number of the population purchased water tanks and are now collecting clean rainwater from their newly constructed roofs. Most of our children, who had stayed at home due to a lack of school fees, are now back in school, along with other diverse spending patterns in every household since they gave us the freedom to choose our spending. In my case, I was able t lend a hand in paying my brother's son's school fees of $100 who had been sent back home. I am glad my of ten families currently lives happily because they got enough food on a daily basis"

received a $429 second payment.
"Second transfer came at the right time, my children had been sent back home for fees. I have 10 children, two in tertiary, and 8 in secondary. It was uneasy to pay fees since we only depended on painting jobs and small-scale farming which is unreliable. I felt frustrated to see a drop in my children performance since they would be sent home to collect fees twice every week. As a result, I cleared their fees arrears of $320 and I am glad to report a great improvement in their class performance, more study time. Furthermore, I also had the privilege to install electricity using $ 100. For the longest time, the village has been living in despair without electricity due to the high cost of installation. I am happy that I currently save a lot, due to no cost associated with moving to and fro among my 2 children to do their online courses and exams in cyber everyday, electricity light made studies easy. In addition, I also bought furniture, using $500, before, we used traditional woods as seats, something that caused a lot of backbone pain, I am happy that the family no longer experiences the challenge. I also spent $120 of the remaining on food for my family of 12 as well as new clothing. We have been struggling to feed the family due to drought and famine, on many occasions, we would skip meals but not anymore since we got the transfers, instead, the health of the family improved due to good eating habits."
