Hillary
received a $427 second payment.
"With the driving skills that I have, I have been hoping to obtain a tractor that would come in handy both in improving my farming practices, and also an additional source of income since I will be ploughing other people's lands and weeding their vast lands using the tractor. Even though I am still paying school fees for my two children among other household demands, I hope to improve my farming activities that will, in turn, earn me more income."

Bendera
received a $427 second payment.
"Ever since my husband left me with my children, life has never been easy. I am a single mother who has eight children and to be honest I have tried all means to make ends meet but my effort seems to bear no fruits. The moment I received GiveDirectly's transfers, I was really happy and thanked God so much.I bought a piece of land where I started farming. I have had a great interest in farming and I have already started planting maize and some kales which I would use for subsistence purposes and later commercially . With the remaining amount, I bought food for my children so that they can grow more healthy and happier."

Kahunda
received a $442 initial payment.
"The biggest difference in my daily life is paying school fees for my daughter, who is in her final year of secondary school. We have high expectations for our firstborn daughter, and we hope she will have enough time to prepare for her final exams. I am relieved that she will not be sent home for the entire term, as she was previously, and that she will spend all of her time in school studying with other students."

received a $442 initial payment.
"I recall overhearing my neighbour coming over to my place to ask if I had also received money from GiveDirectly. I had not checked my phone for a while since I was busy with the house chore, I took the issue seriously and went to check immediately. Upon checking I realised that I had a Mpesa message showing I had received cash from GiveDirectly. This was the most refreshing news I had received in a while. I would be able to realise my goal of rearing my goats. I knew this was an immense blessing hence I was grateful."

Alice
received a $442 initial payment.
"I always had a dream of rearing dairy goats, though it was not easy to raise them due to financial constraints. My husband and I work at the county government. Together we are blessed with five children. Upon receiving my transfer, my husband and I agreed on buying a dairy goat to save up money that we use daily on purchasing milk. Therefore, I bought one for $170. Secondly, bought a water tank worth $140 and lastly I purchased foodstuffs with the remaining amount. I am so happy and fulfilled that I was able to accomplish my goal in a short period."

Samwel
received a $442 initial payment.
"I can vividly recall the moment that I got a text showing that I had received a sum of $550. I was at home relaxing. Then suddenly, I heard my phone ringing. Upon checking I was lost for words when I saw a message notification showing that I had received money from GiveDirectly. I was so happy and grateful for the support that came when we least expect it. I then told my wife and children who were equally grateful and relieved because he knew that we would accomplish our goals. We then embarked on planning."

Rachael
received a $442 initial payment.
"I will never forget the day I received my transfer. This is because I was at the hospital where I had just welcomed my newborn. My phone was on the table when I heard it ringing, Since I was in the hospital bed, I recall asking my mother inlaw to pass the phone over. I was so happy the moment I confirmed that I had received money from GiveDirectly, It was a double blessing due to the fact that I had welcomed my bundle of joy the same day. I knew that I would have enough food in the house, thus, I am grateful."

Chebet
received a $427 second payment.
"In the coming year and beyond, I hope to purchase a quarter of an acre of land where I would build my home. At the moment, I am forced to rent which is very costly. Additionally, I intend to purchase one dairy cow which will provide readily available milk for the family. Similarly, I would like to take the extra milk to the milk cooler station where to earn extra income."

"I have no money to buy herbs at least $20 per month for my cow to produce enough compost or buying fertilizer for my farm, this has affected my harvest so much and eat once per day.
I don't have good and clean clothes and shoes to wear, my house is very old and not clean, and all those affected my hapiness in life."

"Our living condition is not favourable because we have a small house for our big family of 7 , sleeping on the floor with all our children there is no privacy either for us nor our children who have to share the same room with us and among themselves boys and girls.
The current season is not favourable for our crops we are not able to harvest because of the lack of rain and lack of fertiliser, we currently don't have any livestock to give us organic fertiliser, we have to work for others daily to be able to afford inorganic fertiliser which we can't get in big quantity as the money we work for is much lesser than the price of the fertiliser on the market."
