"While our bills aren't particularly large in comparison to others, I can assure you that they add up. Some are consistent, such as the $2 my husband  spends on transport each day when he leaves the house at 8 a.m. and returns at 9.30 p.m., or the $55 ($25, $15 $15, for the Grade 6 and two Grade 2 students, respectively) that we pay to Migumomiri Primary in tuition per term. As a result, GiveDirectly funds were directed toward school-related matters, ensuring that we were in the black for a few more terms ahead of schedule. My eldest recently completed Class 8 and plans to attend Jones Kaloleni Secondary School, the tuition for which we as parents have yet to pay. Our token reader was faulty, but the funds came in just in time.I purchased one bed for the children, while I was at it, got my husband and I a mattress . After stocking up on food in the house, we focused on growing my husband's grocery business with what was left of the funds. GiveDirectly being the salvation they are to not only myself, but also countless other recipients is a testament to just how impactful they are as a pillar on our societies."

"Pentanguo Primary School can be counted as a beneficiary of GiveDirectly's generosity. I am a parent of eight children, six of whom are students at the school. They're in Class 8, Class 6, and two in Class 4, and each require $7 per term in tuition, whereas the 5th and 6th born, both of whom are in Grade 2, and require $9 per year in tuition. We made sure to use the funds to cover these amounts as well as the needs of the twins that make up baby numbers 7 and 8. Building a 2-bedroom house and a verandah was yet another way in which we allocated the transfers received from GiveDirectly. Aside from one of us tending to the three acres of land on which we grow cassava, maize, and other cereals, we both do casual jobs, with him earning $5 per day and myself earning $4, and what we harvest, we consume. GiveDirectly has completely changed the trajectory we were on as a family, and for the better. We have never been happier."

"I've had one desire pounding in my heart and consuming my waking thoughts. Nothing would make me happier than to purchase land and construct my own home. I am currently living with my parents, and I am more than ready for that to end. In the short run, one of my top priorities is to expand my salon business and, as a result , improve our family's financial situation. All i truly desire in life is to provide the best possible life for my children."

"Many people who had lived in our village before GiveDirectly arrived would be surprised if they took a walk around it. Houses have sprouted up, livestock can be heard on many more homesteads than previously, businesses are thriving and revitalized, and it all leads back to GiveDirectly. Their influence in our community demonstrates what they do best: empower and uplift."

"I would wish for my business to grow and expand to the point where I can provide a better life for my children than their father and i have had. I would also like to add some livestock on my property. a few cows, goats, and possibly some poultry. I strongly believe that all this will come to pass with time."

"When i go to university, my life will be much better. With the community that i find myself, our main source of income is farming and the poverty level is so high comparing it with people who are educated, it's much better. I have 3 brothers and 4 sisters where i am the second child and 27 years in the family. If i attend and complete university, i will definitely be a help to them and my entire community."

"The most significant difference is that the organization transformed my life. This is because I was able to build a decent house for my family, which would have taken a long time to save up for. Second, unlike before, we now have clean water for daily consumption, as opposed to having to go to the stream or buy water."

"I was in Bomet town where I run a daycare center when I received my cash transfer. I heard my phone ring and when I checked the message, I realized that I had a huge amount of money in my mobile Mpesa wallet. I couldn't share the news with anyone for security reasons since I was in town. I remained calm until the evening when I shared the news with my family who were grateful."

"Destruction of my garden full of onions in the months of October and November of 2022. The rains were so intense and they ended up resulting to mudslides. The mudslides carried away most of my crops and taking away all the topsoils that had fertilizers in them. This led to very poor yields even right now we did not harvest more than 7bags of onions and yet in the past years we would harvest about 15bags. Our garden that had beans was so destroyed. This has resulted to hunger and currently do not have enough food to eat and also secure the food for February."

"The biggest difference in my daily life is that I am no longer living a stressful life like I used to do before. I am now a very happy mother having bought a dairy cow knowing very well that I will be able to make more money in future."
