"Upon receiving the last transfer, I had already constructed my house, and the only remaining task was to complete the floors, which I had planned with the help of my daughter, Jeniffer, using part of the final transfer. I allocated $79 to purchase cement and sand and pay for the water used during the floor furnishing. I am delighted that the house is now complete, and it's easy to clean, especially at my old age when I might have needed to hire someone to clean. I spent $69 on the transportation of construction materials and labor charges. Another $124 went into buying two sacks of dry maize grains for food, ensuring that my grandchild does not go hungry while at home. I also used $100 to pay school fees for my grandchild, who is currently in secondary school. With the remaining $80, I bought two goats to add to the two I am currently rearing, alongside my daughter's herd. This not only provides financial security but also gives me hope of selling them in the future to buy food and pay school fees for my grandchildren."

"GiveDirectly does well by giving cash and doing so unconditionally. People like us who do not have the energy to do odd casual jobs were able to relax and have a good time during this period that we received the cash. The money came at a time that we were almost hopeless and we thank God that we got to have hope again. With this cash, we felt our lives as old people was given the dignity that it deserves."

"In my opinion GiveDirectly does very well by giving the cash that they give without conditions. Old people like me were able to make informed decisions on how the money was going to be spent. I personally was able to buy enough food during this period and got to be stress free a lot. I am so kuch happy and grateful for this. Looking at the water tank that I bought and the beautiful store that I built makes my heart happy. The store that I initially owned was brought down by termites and I cannot be grateful enough that I now have another one."

"Food insecurity is the challenge I am currently facing in life. I am a widow living alone in the compound. My husband died so many years ago and after the death of the husband all the children moved to other areas with their family and left me alone. I do casual jobs but due to my age I cannot do hard activities thus most of the time I go without food. I have really grown weak."

"My current priority is to ensure that my four children can attend school comfortably. I have had challenges covering their tuition fees, occasionally having to turn to relatives for assistance. These difficulties arose when my husband's ability to work was compromised by illness, and although he occasionally engages in manual labor, his health constraints limit him. I now rely solely on the monthly transfers to meet the financial requirements of their education. My ultimate aim is to witness their educational success, and I intend to use the monthly transfers to ensure their fees are consistently paid on time, thereby preventing any interruptions in their education."

"The substantial sum provided by GD has undeniably elevated us from the clutches of poverty. It ensured that our family never went to bed hungry as we did before the transfer, as we wisely utilized it to purchase essential food supplies. Moreover, I invested in a more secure financial future by acquiring 10 goats, confident that their multiplication would serve as a valuable asset when needed. My heartfelt gratitude goes out to GD for this transformational opportunity."
