"We are a family of 4, life has been hard. It is full of insurmountable challenges. We are people of little means struggling a lot to make ends meet. Currently, the cost of living has shot high to unprecedented levels unseen before. Nearly all the commodities are very expensive and sometimes unaffordable, recently the cost of sugar increased from $1.5 to $ 2 which is unaffordable, we have stopped taking tea with sugar as a result. My children are unhappy because they are not used to tea without sugar, they feel so bad, and the youngest one, Brigit, has been crying a lot."

"I have been a casual laborer for so many years, with low earnings of $2 on a good day. This is only enough to purchase maize flour; I have never had the opportunity to save any coin. Furthermore, the job has been so tedious. Therefore, in the coming year, I would like to open a grocery business that I will operate within my neighboring town. This will enable me to take care of my family without strain, like before."

"In my opinion, I do not see anything that the organizations are not doing well. They did a commendable job by coming up with the idea of offering us unconditional cash transfers. Recently, I have been able to meet some of my basic needs, unlike before, when it used to be a struggle."

"In my opinion, GiveDirectly did well by giving out an equal number of cash transfers to its beneficiaries. Through that, some of us have accomplished our long-time goals, which has equally brought about a positive change in our living standards. Therefore, according to me, I cannot point out anything that they did wrong."

"My husband passed away many years ago, and by then we already had children who now have children. I am so grateful that my family is growing as the days go by. I must mention that my children have been taking care of me ever since, despite their financial hardship. They made sure that I never lacked basic needs. Therefore, after receiving my transfers, I decided to clear the $200 balance for my granddaughter, who is in secondary school. I believe this will ease the burden on my son since he has been struggling to raise the fees. Also, my granddaughter will study peacefully without any disturbance. Also, I purchased two goats for $80, and I believe that once they reproduce, I will be able to sell the offspring and attend to the emergency. To add on t, because of my advanced age, I used the cash to hire someone to prepare my two-acre farm. Initially, I could only utilize a small portion of the farm because I was using my own hands; this would mean that the harvests were very low. I used the remaining money to buy food that I have been taking up to date."

Neema
received a $398 second payment.
"Generally, my life has been full of ups and downs for so many years. This is because my husband and I have been relying on odd jobs( working on other people's games for a living). However, this has affected my family, especially with the prolonged droughts that we encountered. The most disadvantageous were my children, who have constantly been sent home due to the accumulated arrears. Oh, it was tough! Therefore, as soon as I received my second transfer, I paid fees of $280 for my son Baraka, who is in Form 1, my daughter Elliner, who is in college pursuing a computer programming course, and my spouse, who recently joined a driving school. I will be a proud and happy mother to see them finish their studies within the given time frame. This will guarantee a better life for them and their generations. Upon finishing that, I bought two goats that I consider my assets. As time goes by, they will increase in number, provided the climate conditions are favorable for them to thrive. At least I will have a steady source of income that I can depend on if I am experiencing financial constraints. On top of that, I bought new clothes for my children to replace the old ones that were in a bad state. I feel this has restored their self-esteem. I spent the remaining amount to buy food for my family and other household needs like utensils."

"I have been living in a small house that serves as a kitchen as well. My wish is to build a spacious, decent house that can fit my four children and me. I feel it's high time we needed privacy, considering that all my children are now adults. Also, the smoke has been affecting our lungs for quite some time. Therefore, in the next four months, I am hoping to start this project. We all deserve good housing."

"Since I have been relying on casual jobs for my daily upkeep, I have been thinking of purchasing more goats. These will not only help me make my household better but will also be a stable source of income for me to support my children's educational journey. I trust these are the most valuable assets that will ease the difficulties we have been facing for years."

"For all those years I have been married, my life has been surrounded by unending troubles. This was a result of being at an advanced age without any source of income. Therefore, I have been relying on my children, who also have families of their own, to support them. Therefore, it has not been easy for them to meet all my needs at once. Upon receiving the recent transfer, I bought a solar panel, which cost almost $100. For a while, I have been using firewood in place of candles since I could afford to buy it. I feel great and safe because thieves have been taking advantage of me and grabbing some of my property, especially at night. On top of that, I cleared the hospital bill for my spouse, Gohu, who has been battling kidney issues. The money came in handy since my children had tried all they could to settle the bill but in vain. As a family, we appreciated and felt thankful for saving the lives of our loved ones. To add to that, I bought two goats worth $100. I chose to rear the goat since they grow and multiply within a short period. Therefore, as time goes by, I plan to sell some that will enable me to generate an income to help me take care of my ailing husband. With the remaining amount, I have been buying food that has sustained us to date."
