"My top priority when I got the second transfer was to buy some meals. This is because I am powerless to defend myself. I mean, I'm blind. Aside from that, my five children, who I rely on, are unable to raise food crops due to the extreme farming difficulties caused by the drought in my region. To help us buy food, do casual labor to make ends meet which has been a challenge. They occasionally need to take a break because of weariness. Sadly, as we live hand to mouth, each break results in a string of missed meals. To allow them some time to rest, I chose to spend $130 to buy two sacks of maize to ensure that we have some food at home. I also used $30 to pay school fees for my grandchild who had been sent out of school for fees. Thereafter, I bought a storage water tank of 400 liters capacity for @35. I also opted to buy some furniture since I had none. I bought a medium size table and two chairs for $25 and $15 respectively. For the remaining amount, I opted to save it for the family,s emergencies."

"I am not free to be here with my grandchildren because I left my matrimonial house and returned to my parent's home. As a result, I intend to build a house on the land I purchased using GiveDirectly funds. If all goes as planned, I hope to be in my own home before the end of the year 2023. This is doable provided I maintain my savings discipline from my casual labor."

"Before I got enrolled in GiveDirectly's transfers, I had begun building a permanent three-roomed house. The current one is mad walled and old hence the need for a better one. It leaks during the rainy seasons, and I hope to renovate it by this year. Monthly, I spend part of the transfer buying cement for that construction. I know that once it is renovated, I shall be able to live in a better place for more than ten years. The current house is mud-walled and unstable. I fear residing in it since it is weak and afraid with heavy rains, it can collapse."

"As a farmer, my source of income is meager, and I have been unable to undertake new projects due to limited funds. My dilapidated house is a constant source of worry, especially with the rainy season approaching. I am at a crossroads on how to fix the leaking roof with the little money that I have. However, my long-term goal is to find a permanent solution to this problem. This would involve purchasing new iron sheets to replace the old ones. I am hopeful that I will be able to achieve this goal soon, and my house will be in a better condition."

"By the end of this year, I hope to improve the condition of my house, which has been my sanctuary for the past five years. My plan is to buy one piece of iron sheet at a time until I have enough to conduct a complete roof makeover. I am concerned about the approaching rainy season and the potential for sleepless nights and damage due to the current state of the roof. Once my house is in good condition, I will be overjoyed."

"Next year, I have several goals that I would like to achieve. First and foremost, I plan to finish building the new room that will provide ample space for my four grandchildren. This way, my house will be able to comfortably accommodate all members of my family. Second, I would like to invest in livestock, particularly goats that can thrive in our harsh climatic conditions. As the goats multiply, I plan to sell some and use the proceeds to support my family's needs"

"Due to my current health condition, it has been difficult for me to provide for my family's essential needs and pay the mounting bills. This year, I have decided to prioritize my well-being, which means I will be using a significant portion of the transfer funds to purchase necessary medicinal drugs and make frequent visits to the hospital for treatment. In addition to taking care of my health, I have also decided to invest some of the funds in livestock. I believe that this will be a profitable future investment, as I can sell the livestock for a good price and earn additional income to support my family's needs. By prioritizing my health and making sound investments, I hope to improve my family's overall well-being and create a more stable future for us."

"My goal is to complete the construction of my house by the end of this year. Unfortunately, the building process came to a halt due to a shortage of funds. However, I have a plan to strengthen the house by building stone pillars around it to prevent the mud walls from collapsing. This will provide the necessary support and security needed for me to live peacefully inside my home."

"In my opinion GiveDirectly does very well by being very transparent in their operations. By not using any middlemen to reach us makes us have confidence in them. We have seen other organisations in the past that have come and they used middlemen such as community leaders to offer their support. Most of the time this failed and the support did not reach the intended people in full. The direct enrollment of each individual household and the training that they offer is something to be appreciative of."

"When I received my most recent transfer of $450, I used $50 to buy food for my family. I also used $100 to pay school fees for my two children who are currently doing their secondary school education. Another $100 was used to till a piece of land that I own-1 acre . This was inclusive of the seeds that were planted in the said farm. 8nalsongot to enroll my children and my spouse with part of the money that remained. Life for us had been made difficult following an almost three years spell of droght. Die to the fact that we rely on farming to make income that helps us sustain the needs of our family, life had become difficult and therefore this support was quite timely for us. I am happy that I have not only planted my farm in time but also been in a position to meet some of the most basic needs like covering myself and my family under National insurance Fund. I will now henceforth find it easy to take care of my mother in law who has been ailing for quite sometime. I have plans however of starting an NHIF cover for her since she earns a monthly stipend from government."
