Richard
received a $409 second payment.
"Depending on a single source of income can be stressful and draining, and this has never been my wish. Although we wish for crop diversification in my area, the climatic conditions, market, and lack of knowledge are obstacles. At Saoset village, for instance, tea farming is not a go-to business since the soils are poor for such, but sugarcane and coffee farming can thrive. Unfortunately, the residents here are not knowledgeable, and for the markets to thrive, a reasonable number of people should have planted such crops on their farms. Since I cannot be a lone ranger in such a business, I hope to venture extensively into poultry farming to support my family of 5. I plan on using $500 to construct a poultry farm to accommodate over 100 chickens. I will be glad to earn from the sales of the eggs and chicken and, therefore, be financially stable."

Lilian
received a $394 second payment.
"In the 21st century, having the basic needs of food, shelter, and clothing is essential. I am glad to have achieved this for my family of six through the transfers. From the last transfers, I utilized $300 in completing the three-room brick-walled house that I commenced constructing in September 2022. We used to live in a two-room, mud-walled house that often leaked during heavy rains, thus predisposing my family to diseases such as pneumonia. In addition, I used $200 to add more stock to the retail business that my family depends on. From the business, I earn approximately $60 in profit a month that fully supports my family, including food, clothing, and education for my children. I am now hopeful, with the expanded business, that the profits will increase and my financial status will be upgraded."

Lucy
received a $149 initial payment.
"The biggest difference is that I am now relaxed knowing that I have cleared the loan I had. Previously, I did not have peace of mind since the lender kept calling me demanding his money back. I am also happy that I did not sell out my goats as I was almost doing so. Hopefully, they will multiply and I will not be struggling in the next future as I will sell them to cater for my son's school fees"

Benard
received a $149 initial payment.
"At approximately 3:00 p.m. while I was at home, a notification on my phone caught my attention, and upon checking it, I learned that I had received the money in my account. At that moment, my sister was present, as she had paid me a visit, and I took pleasure in informing her and my family of the exciting news. After three days, I proceeded to withdraw the funds from my account."

Talai
received a $134 initial payment.
"Five years ago, my grandson's father passed away, and his mother left him with me to pursue a new relationship. Since then, I have been taking care of him as my own. Upon receiving the first transfer, I felt a strong need to secure my grandson's education by paying his school fees, which amounted to $80. I wanted him to have ample time to learn and thrive, and seeing his joy at the news was a heartwarming experience. Additionally, I spent $2 on a simple chair and $7 on three pairs of my second-hand dresses. I also bought two water cans for $3 and spent $60 on foodstuff that has been sustaining us ever since. As I eagerly await the second transfer, I plan to buy more food to ensure our continued well-being. i saved the remaining $30 for future purchases of household goods. I am immensely grateful to GiveDirectly for the support that has made a significant difference in my life and that of my grandson."

Sokome
received a $134 initial payment.
"The biggest difference in my daily life is attributed to the substantial investment I ventured into livestock farming by purchasing two goats, which I am currently nurturing. My aim is to breed them so that in the future, I can sell the offspring and use the proceeds to cater for any unforeseen expenses in my household. The generous support I received from GiveDirectly enabled me to take this step towards securing my family's financial future, and I am eagerly looking forward to receiving the second transfer to make more significant improvements in my life."
