Katana
received a $26 thirteenth payment.
"Clearing my children's school fee balances is my top priority and I plan to use the majority of my transfers to achieve this. Their school fees have been outstanding for some time now and I have been unable to pay due to a lack of funds. Once their balances are settled, my children will have a conducive environment to focus on their studies without any distractions. In addition to this, I also plan on using part of the money to purchase healthy food for my family, ensuring they do not go hungry."

Sheillah
received a $26 sixth payment.
"As I look ahead to the end of the year, I am determined to achieve my greatest accomplishment yet. My goal is to use the money from my transfers to clear the huge school fee debt that has been weighing me down. I know that this will pave the way for me to receive my national examination results and get into university. Becoming a doctor has always been my dream, and I am beyond grateful that the transfer money I am receiving will go a long way in helping me achieve it. I am determined to work hard and give it my all so that I can make the most of this opportunity and succeed in my studies. Clearing my school fees will not only help me achieve my goals but will also be a great relief to my family. My mother has been struggling to provide for us, and I want to take some of that burden off her shoulders. I know that with my hard work and dedication, I will be able to help my family in the future and make them proud."

Mary
received a $134 initial payment.
"I used $80 to buy gathers that I will use to collect rain water in my house. Another $30 was used to meet medical bills for my grandchild who was admitted in hospital at that time. The remaining amount of $90 was used to buy food and other basic household needs and to pay school fees for one of my children. I am a mother of 6 children and I rely almost entirely on goat keeping to make ends meet. My husband supports me with goat keeping and it is a challenge sometimes since we have people who prey on these goats. Sometime last year my goats were stolen and I have other neighbours who have suffered the same fate several times. It is a huge challenge over here yet it is supposed to be the main economic activity that we rely on."

Martha
received a $230 third payment.
"I have kept my money to buy furniture for my house after plastering. I've decided to buy living room chair set, one mattress along with a bed. The rest of my money will be kept for food and health challenges in the near future. I am using my money this way because I want to have a good place to stay; I also want to be comfortable in my house and sleep well and peaceful at night."

John
received a $149 initial payment.
"I felt so happy the moment I received money from GiveDirectly. I heard my phone ring and I asked one of my children called Sokome to confirm for me whether I had indeed received money from GiveDirectly. She is the only person who knows my Mpesa pin and whom I trust with my phone. When she confirmed that indeed I had been sent the money then I asked her to help me in purchasing some of the things that I already had in mind. I also had one of my children who was in college and I had really struggled to raise money to pay her school fees. This was such a huge relief for me."

Talai
received a $134 initial payment.
"When I received my most recent transfer I used part of it-$50 to buy new clothes for my grandchildren who normally stay with me and help me with house chores and company. I felt that they had a right to feel happy too because of this blessing that we received as a family. I then used another $50 to buy my own clothes. I then used the remaining amount to buy food and other basic household needs that lasted me a couple of days before it got depleted. Getting enough money to buy all these things at a go was just a dream for me for all those days. GiveDirectly brought smiles to my entire family and I cannot thank them enough. I intend to use the second transfer to buy a water tank that will help me have access to clean drinking water and safe me from the danger of drinking dirty water and the shortages that we normally undergo especially during periods like these of long dry spells."
