"In my opinion, GiveDirectly does well by assisting the very needy in the village without discrimination. I like the fact that it works independently without relying on information from our local leaders i.e village elders. I have not seen anything that GD should improve."

"Since we were in the midst of the worst-ever drought and had lost everything from plants and animals to even businesses nearly closing down, these transfers arrived just as I needed them. I was therefore among the happiest individuals when I learned of these transfers since it meant that much of the difficult work we did—such as carrying water and firewood from extremely far away locations have to be reduced because we would have to embrace other ways to do it."

"Givedirectly has made life easier through the transfers. In my community, for instance, people have acquired wealth, paid school fees for their children and also constructed houses in which they live comfortably with their families. I am happy that change is evident and hopeful that such a legacy may live on."

"Since the last few months have been so difficult for me, I was delighted to receive transfers from Give Directly. Communities in my neighborhood were fighting, so I was forced to flee for my safety, leaving everything behind and starting again with nothing. Life was just too difficult for my family since we had neither had a place to sleep, food nor money for education."

"I was able to fence an acre and a half in anticipation of this season's planting when I got this initial transfer. The money I get paid as a matatu driver is not at all enough, therefore my objective is to produce maize so that I can feed my family when a drought strikes again and sell some of it to create an income."

"My new goal for the coming year is to enroll in a hairdressing course that will commence in May and is expected to take two years to complete. This is aimed at expanding my skillset and providing a source of additional income, alongside subsistence farming that my husband and I are currently doing. I am excited about the opportunity to learn skill, which will not only provide an extra source of income for my family but also allow me to pursue my passion for hairdressing. I am determined to work hard and successfully complete the course, which will open up new opportunities for me and my family."

"In the coming year, I wish to complete the furnishing of the new house that I built with the money I received from GiveDirectly and to expand my business. With the completion of the house, I plan to purchase necessary furniture and appliances to make it a comfortable home for my family. Additionally, I plan to expand my business to increase my income, which will help with raising school fees for my children in the future. I am determined to provide a better future for my family, and I am excited to work hard to achieve it."

"I mentioned earlier that I am making a monthly savings of $20 to my savings group. I have 5 grown children with my two eldest being 14 and 12. I moved them to their grandmother when they were around 10 because culturally I cannot live with my grown children in the same house. I have wanted to build them a house so they do not have to stay at their grandmother's house. I see this goal being achieved this year through these transfers. I would like to build a two-roomed house that my other children can transition into when they all grow. I am anticipating using the first round to get the poles for the structure while also savings towards buying the more pricey iron sheets."

"In our culture, when you are older, you are not allowed to live in your parent's house. I moved out of my parents' house quite a while ago and I have been living with my brother. I had desired to get a house of my own but with my small earnings from selling charcoal, there was much hope of achieving this until GD came to us. I was so excited and in August last year, I started setting money aside to use for this building. I would save as low as $15 to ensure that I had enough to start up on the project and in March this year I started construction. In January and March, I set aside my entire transfer of $34 while in February I set aside a part of it $20. I used $14 in February to ensure my family was fed."

"It has been my dream to study Orthopedics and trauma at the college level and when I received my form four results that I had gotten a c- I knew I could pursue this dream. My parents are not very stable financially as my father is a shopkeeper and my mother is a housewife. I knew I could not burden them with the hefty school fees amounts seeing that a number of us are still in school. I decided to start the business to raise cash that I could finally spend in paying my school fees to study at college. I sell the chicken at $7.5 and make a profit of between $3 to $4 once the service charges are removed. I have a steady market for my produce now and I hope to explore this further by increasing my flock. I also see myself at the end of the year having enough savings to start school and I can sustain the school fees from the business as it grows. I will be so happy if I can join college and study Orthopedics and trauma as it's something ever on my mind."
