"It had been a longtime dream of mine to one day own my own piece of land. a patch of dirt that I could call my own and one day pass over to my kids. GiveDirectly made that dream a reality by sending me those transfers. I was able to purchase a plot of land measuring 50 by 100 meters, which I can develop at my leisure. Having separated from my husband in 2008, I have been both mother and father to my kids. Hence, clothes and food were purchases that were essential to us as a household. I set aside some of the funds from GiveDirectly for this. Considering I only depend on the maize I sell at $60 per sack, the funds were crucial in allowing me to pay my kids' tuition fees. My second child is in Form 4 and needs $220 per term in school fees. Thanks to GiveDirectly, I was able to clear this with no problem. My firstborn is a boda boda operator and runs his own shop as well in Sibunya village. When my husband left me and married two wives, I was unsure how my life would ever play out, but thanks to GiveDirectly, I now have something to show for my hard work. I am eternally grateful."

"I want to accomplish a lot as a farmer. I want to engage in more farming activities in order to produce a variety of crops. With this, I believe I will earn more money and be able to transform my life, relocate my family to the city and enroll my children in a good school to acquire a quality education."

"I live with my spouse and 3 children: a boy and two girls. My spouse works as a casual labourer on a plantation, but what he earns a month is not sufficient for sustainability. Our dear hope has been to have a comfortable place call home. The third transfer was spent on land in the city to enable us to build a house to call ours."

"In the coming year and beyond, I will be concentrating on payment of school fees for my children. I have three in secondary school which means I need to put in a lot of effort in order to pay their school fees in time. I do not want a situation that will see my children being sent home for school fees as my desire has always been to see them get the best in terms of education. I look forward to accumulating enough money from the motorcycle work that I do as well as subsistence farming as well."

"In my opinion, GiveDirectly does very well by giving support in form of cash transfers. This has given us the freedom to choose how to spend the money and we have done so to the satisfaction of everyone. Different people have different needs and clearly GiveDirectly appreciated that."

"In my opinion, GiveDirectly does very well by giving out cash transfers as a form of aid. This to me is the most wonderful thing they could think of. By respecting the fact that we have varying needs means that we were given the freedom to spend the money in things that would benefit us a lot. I look forward towards seeing many more people benefit like I did and we have a better society left for us."

"The enrollment was done well without any discrimination and most of the people who qualified to receive the transfer spent it well. Most people build better houses and even invested in dairy-keeping projects. I do not find anything that GiveDirectly did not do well."
