Sidi
received a $434 second payment.
"I spent part of my second transfer on buying all the necessary materials for building a new house. I had to take this initiative because the previous one was very small and it even collapse one month after being enrolled. I can't thank enough GiveDirectly because were it not for them, I would now be steering under a tree since I could not afford to purchase any of the items at my own cost. I now feel safe from the harmful animals and rodents that have been destroying my properties. I later bought four goats at a total cost of $140. I believe these are the best assets that one can own and earn the benefits within a short period. This is because their offspring mature very fast and they reproduce twice a year. I believe once they increase in number, I will not have to strain on meeting my household needs like before. Later on, I cleared a debt of $36 to a friend and I now have peace of mind. With the remaining amount, I have been buying food and other basic items in my household."

"In my opinion, GiveDirectly did well by offering us unconditional cash transfers. This was so unique since it has never happened in our village before. I was able to fulfil the desires of my heart after being granted the freedom of purchasing what I want. I do not see anything they need to work on as they shift to another region."

received a $420 second payment.
"Supporting the education of my six children and providing for their daily needs like food is my priority. Since they are in primary school, and they have a long way before completing at least the high school level, I would be happy if I obtained a reliable source of income to fund their education. Right now, there is nothing I can do to raise money given my unstable health condition from the illness. Although my elder brother sometimes chips in for their school fees, I would never wish for him to bear that burden. "

Kauchi
received a $420 second payment.
"My focus right now is working on my health and getting the necessary treatment for the tumor that was diagnosed a couple of years ago. What saddens me is lacking resources and funds for the treatment process. The little money my son makes from his casual jobs can hardly put daily meals on the table. This is why I started rearing livestock that could help raise cash for my medication. "

"According to me, Give Directly is doing a significant job of giving people from poor communities unconditional cash. I have seen how these transfers have transformed people’s living standards in my village. Many have built houses, bought livestock, and supported the education of their children. I only wish that my two sons would have benefited from the transfers as well because they are going through a tough time providing for their children. "

Sadaka
received a $420 second payment.
"Since I cannot actively involve myself in strenuous activities to generate an income and help provide for my needs, I wish to start raising livestock. Am glad that the cash transfer helped me to acquire poultry, which I have been rearing to date. My aim is to further the venture by owning goats and cows, as I could easily sell these animals in the future to raise more money. "

received a $434 second payment.
"I mostly used this transfer to build a one-room house for my three sons. Their aunt had been accommodating them in her house since mine could not provide enough space as it only had one room. The idea of constructing a separate structure for my children had always come to mind but lack of finances hindered me. So, Give Directly’s cash transfers were a perfect solution. I spent $358 on the building materials and labor compensation. I also bought them a bed for $80 and a mattress for $70 to use in the new structure. Am glad, that my sons are now fully settled in their house. I used the remaining balance on food as the household had run out of maize flour. "

Leah
received a $434 second payment.
"Give Directly does a good job of giving needy people unconditional money and allowing them to choose how to spend the cash. Personally, I was able to build a more spacious house for my family from the transfers. According to me, there is nothing that Give Directly needs to improve in their work. I only wish the transfers would continue coming. "

Sidi
received a $434 second payment.
"I want to devote all of my time, energy, and resources to building a good, spacious home that can accommodate my entire family. We have to cram everyone inside the tiny house to sleep. Additionally, there are no partitions in the house, so whenever friends and neighbors come over, they can see all of my bedding. This disturbs my sense of calm, and I feel embarrassed that I am unable to protect my privacy even from my young children. I'll be able to regain my dignity and privacy by building a larger home."

Kadzo
received a second payment.
"Food was the priority when I received the second transfer. Since I relied on making and selling charcoals, I could not fully meet my family's needs. Therefore, I bought a 25kg sack of rice for $30 and a bale of maize flour for $24. I also paid $170 school fees for my three secondary school children so they could be allowed to sit for their examinations because they had fee arrears. Having settled the two issues, I opted to use the remaining amount to build a house for my children. I did this because they used to sleep in their uncle's house and I saw it wise for them to have their separate house since they are grown-up. Currently, they are happy having a house where they are comfortable and confident to do their things."
