Janet
received a $436 second payment.
"Most of our family income was used to pay school fees and this made our house stall for about a year. This second transfer from GiveDirectly was a sign of relief to us. We budgeted KES 36000 to complete our new home. We were also struggling with school fee arrears of KES 9000 which we cleared when we received our second transfer."

"To understand what GiveDirectly excels at, one would have to first look at what they have done for both my family and the larger part of our village. Houses have been built, livestock purchased, education facilitated, businesses started, others for both my family and the larger part of our village. Houses have been built, livestock purchased, education facilitated, businesses started, others boosted, etc. Basically, GiveDirectly excels at changing lives for the better. They truly have excelled at making our dreams come true. They are above reproach in my eyes, and I only wish they would continue to do their good work for years to come."

Esther
received a $436 second payment.
"We were used to the tune of empty promises from our leaders. We never thought that GiveDirectly will live as per their word. One month after enrollment, happiness was in the air in our village. People received their transfers. This was unbelievable as we used to wait for ages to see what our leaders promised. Many households spent their transfers on buying food. I wish that GiveDirectly will one day think of a project focusing on food resilience in our area."

Joan
received a $421 second payment.
"I am a single mother of six children and bringing them up alone without reliable source of income has not been easy for me. I rely on an average daily income of $2.5 that I earn as a wage working as casual in farms and selling milk since I have a dairy cow. Since all my children are in school and the older one has already proceeded to high school, I needed to buy another dairy cow to get additional source of income to be able to pay school fees without much strain. With the second transfer, I spend $280 to buy a dairy cow, $100 to pay school fees for my child and the balance to buy food. The dairy cow that I bought is due to give birth in some few months and I know moving forward, paying school fees won't be as difficult as it has been."

Beatrice
received a $421 second payment.
"Since jobs have become less in the village owing to the tough economic times. I had thought of an alternative source of income and goal this year was to set a firewood selling and maize roasting business. Achieving this means earning better income to be able to pay school fees for my children."

Valen
received a $421 second payment.
"For the last one year, our business(a local cyber cafe and a bookshop) was not doing well due to effects of inflation and that caused hard economic times.Since it is our only source of income, we spend most of the profit to pay school fees for our children and cater for basic needs and we were left less amount to add more stock. We were living in fear of seeing our business collapse because it's the only source of income we have known for years. We spend $400 of the second transfer to add more stock to our business and we have noticed an increase in income. Previously, we used to earn daily profit of between $2 to $2.5 and right now, it has increased to $5 a day. I spend the balance to buy food and I am grateful to GiveDirectly for saving my business from collapsing."

received a $421 second payment.
"GiveDirectly's cash transfer program has been a game changer. In my village, you could see how people's life has changed. People build new and better houses, some bought livestock, some even paid school fees, and others were able to seek medication with these transfers. I am grateful to have received cash transfers from GiveDirectly however GiveDirectly should also consider other ways to support us."

"In my opinion, GiveDirectly did well in enrolling me into the program and sending the transfer directly to my phone. Through the transfer, I am happy that my business has turned over a new leaf and can comfortably support the needs of my family. I wish they continue to support people living in poverty in society."
