Betty
received a $420 second payment.
"My daughter Cherono, who was entering form one, was able to pay her educational expenses thanks to the second transfer. We spent $300 on school fees and $130 on uniforms and other necessities for school. The timing of this transfer was perfect because I really needed it. Certainly, God used GiveDirectly to reach others. My children had been in bad health for a while due to a lack of sufficient and nutritious food, which I also managed to purchase. I was able to buy clothes for my children using the money that was left after replacing their outgrown outfits. I also paid the children's primary school tuition. I cultivate tomatoes, onions, and cabbage and am a mother of 6. I do go to sell cabbages on most days. I typically go to the market on Mondays to sell cabbages in order to earn more money and cover my children's tuition and food for the family. My spouse also sells goats and cows to provide for our family."

Scola
received a $420 second payment.
"In the next one year and beyond my plan is to improve my grocery selling business and in turn raise enough money to pay school fees and make our lives better as a family. I have one child in secondary school while another one in grade seven and I am staring at a situation where I will be required to pay school fees. This calls for us to save up enough money to be able to do this comfortably. It will therefore be top among my priorities to do this."

Bildad
received a $356 second payment.
"For about $300, I purchased six goats to raise. Despite the arid conditions here, goats does well, and that's why I choose to invest in them. This, I am confident, will eventually procreate, so I could possibly sell them for profit in the future. Proceeds from this will boost my plan of acquiring a piece of land. I also contributed $100 to my wife's second hand clothes business. I had invested some amount of the first transfer that I had received, and the effect were pretty impressive, which inspired me to contribute more for the business."

Erick
received a $436 second payment.
"One thing that has made it possible for me to be where I am now is the unconditional transfers from GiveDirectly that we got. With both transfers, I was able to buy cows and land, which has given me the pride I had previously lacked."

received a $436 second payment.
"Designing an aid program in the form of cash is one of Give Directly’s incredible accomplishments. In my opinion, the money has helped to relieve a wide range of problems, essentially, helping people to pay school fees and put food on the table for their families. There is no better support than this and I wish that the organization would bring back the cash transfers. "

Fortnata
received a $436 second payment.
"My goal is to start a small vegetable-selling business by the end of the year. Am grateful for the far the cash transfers have brought me in my door-to-door practice of selling clothes. I have accumulated enough savings to buy the initial stock of vegetables and fruits for the new business. I only need to work on securing a shop space where I will let my daughter operate the business on my behalf as I continue selling clothes. "

Dzendere
received a $421 second payment.
"The cash transfer helped me to enroll my two children in college who had just completed their high school studies. For his admission to carpentry school, I paid $40 for my son. I spent $35 on my daughter who was joining a hairdressing college. Then, I bought them two mattresses and two school bags for them and spent $84. From the time they joined college to December last year, I would send each $10 for their school fees. Am sad that the money was depleted before they could graduate, which made them drop out of college by December. My husband, who is our breadwinner, has had challenges in raising money to take them back to school. Also, I used the remaining funds to buy food for the family. I can attest that the last months of 2022 were the happiest in our lives because our household never lacked food. "

Kadzo
received a $421 second payment.
"Since I lack a reliable source of income, I wish to venture further into livestock keeping. Right now, I own 5 goats, most of whom I bought through Give Directly’s transfers. My prayer is to have bought 5 more goats by the end of the year to expand my herd. I believe that owning livestock will help me raise funds to support the education of my children, who are still in primary school."

Mbeyu
received a $436 second payment.
"My current objective is to build a kitchen. I will benefit significantly from this, especially while it's raining. As of right now, I cook in the same house. After cooking, I'm generally disturbed by smoke, so I have to wait outside the house until quite late at night to let the smoke clear before going to bed. Again, the iron sheets are being destroyed by the smoke. That will be the first thing I do if I get some money."
