Hadija
received a $443 initial payment.
"One of most significant difference in my life has been the expansion of my business. This is because it was on the verge of collapsing before I received my transfer. Fortunately, we received the funds at the right time. Due to financial constraints, I was unable to boost it previously. I will be eternally grateful for the support that has vastly enhanced our financial status."

Kadzo
received a $443 initial payment.
"My husband works in a butchery, and I am a farmer. We are fortunate to have two children together. My husband and I chose to spend our initial transfer money on paying $50 in school fees for our children. The remaining funds were then used to purchase a cow and a goat. This was previously not possible due to unreliable income sources. We are grateful that our children can attend school comfortably and that we have our animals to care for, which is a dream come true."

Khadija
received a $443 initial payment.
"I knew my dream of starting a business would come true when GiveDirectly promised us an unconditional transfer. To boost my income, I do normal casual jobs, while my husband is a motorcycle taxi rider. We continue to put our faith in God for children. My hubby and I decided to build a business premise after receiving our initial transfer so that we could start a business. We spent $450 there. Second, we used the remaining funds to purchase goats. This was not possible previously due to our unstable sources of income. We are overjoyed that we will finally be able to realize our long-held dream."

Paulo
received a $443 initial payment.
"Working in a mine is the most difficult task. Though it was difficult, I had no choice but to persevere for the sake of my three children. As a widow, I am the sole breadwinner. After receiving my transfer, I decided to build a decent house for my family, which had previously been impossible due to financial constraints. My children, especially the boys, required their own space. As a result, I spent $300 on construction. Second, I paid $100 for two goats. Finally, I purchased school uniforms and food for my children. I am overjoyed and content that I was able to complete all of this in such a short period of time, and I will be eternally grateful."

Zawadi
received a $443 initial payment.
"I recall it being around 4 p.m. when I received my transfer. I was at the shopping centre where I own a store. The phone was in charge. When I decided to confirm the percentage of the charge, I received a Mpesa text message indicating that I had received money from GiveDirectly. It filled me with joy and happiness because I knew that I would be able to carry out my plans. I am grateful for the transfer that has had a positive impact on our lives."

Amina
received a second payment.
"They educate us on how to withdraw money from the mobile phone and if it is difficult, they assign you a helper. They make sure everything is in order before sending the transfer. They also tell us the date they will send the money which makes us aware."

"In my opinion, Givedirectly did well in sending unconditional cash transfers to the less fortunate households in our community. Additionally, we were enrolled well without any discrimination on religious or political affiliation. I do not have anything that I feel they could do better since every thing went well."

Loyce
received a $28 fifth payment.
"The bare, dusty floor has been the bed for my kids, who are sleeping on sacks. I work as a casual laborer selling charcoal, and the $2 I make per bag barely covers the cost of food and the children' school expenses. I struggle to purchase a bed for my kids and give them better sleeping conditions because of how little money I make. Their health has suffered as a result of the time they have spent sleeping on the flour. I intend to purchase a large bed and mattress that can fit all four of my kids in an effort to stop their health struggles. This will decrease the number of times I visit the hospital for treatment and ensure that the money is used for other things."

Jumaa
received a $28 fifth payment.
"I am a trained Clinical Officer but currently unemployed. I have been surviving on stipends and handouts from doing voluntary work. I have two siblings in high school who depend on me for their fees. I am solely relying on the monthly transfers for their school fees. My objective currently is to ensure that I pay for their fees on time so that they can continue with their studies and achieve their goals. Also, if their is surplus, I am planning to buy more goats to keep. I currently have 2 goats which will also help me in case of a future financial need."

Elizabeth
received a $28 fifth payment.
"I'm delighted I was accepted into the program by the organization since the donations have already made a big difference in my life. Since I have four children who are currently enrolled in school and the management of the school frequently sends students back home because of debts, my top goal right now is to make sure I pay the tuition. I also hoped to utilize the money before the year is through to hire an ox to assist me plough my property during the wet season. I will absolutely benefit from this because it will prevent me from becoming fatigued while farming, and if I'm fortunate, it may also allow me to not be worried of hunger."
