"I enrolled my wife into a college to persue a tailoring course so that she can gain some useful skills and also engage herself. She is required to pay a sum of Ksh.15,500 and I have so far paid ksh. 2000 only. My objective is now to use the monthly transfer to clear this fee so as to allow her complete her course."

"I have been paying fees for my son through the transfer since last year and I'm glad that he completed his college studies, courtesy of GiveDirectly. I am now planning to buy 10 pieces of iron sheets, building poles and timber in order to rebuild my living house's roof. It was blown away and destroyed by strong winds and I couldn't readily renovate it because the transfer went to fees only. I will be purchasing 4 iron sheets every month to facilitate this. Once I am done with renovating the roof, I will save some money and buy some goats, I'm currently owning two. These are assets that I can also rely on in case of a financial need since they will reproduce and increase in number."

"I have always been business minded but the problem is where and how to get money for capital. My main wish is to open a retail shop where I can sell items to residents of my village at cheaper prices. I hope to do this by March this year and I'll need a capital of $1500. I chose a shop because it is an indigenous business which is familiar to everyone hence market will be readily available. I plan to raise this capital from well wishers since I can not raise this amount by myself."

"The beginning of the year was not quite great for me and my family, and this is because, due to the really heavy rainfall one of the walls of my house unfortunately collapsed because the foundation was not that great and also because it's a mud house. My intention with the money that I will receive this year is to ensure that me and my husband can come together to finally feel like we have a better home for ourselves and that we don't have to worry about it collapsing anymore. I will preferably want to buy bricks this time around so that we can have a more permanent home with a better foundation. I also plan on using the money to provide nourishment for my family."

"I appreciate the amount of transfers that we were given by GiveDirectly but I think in my opinion, it will be better if we receive the whole lump sum at once so that one can finish up with the project that they have planned. On the other hand what GiveDirectly does well is giving us unconditional cash transfers so that we can plan for ourselves."

"Both my husband and I are teachers but although he is employed, I have not yet secured a government job. For the longest time, we were planning to build a permanent house but we didn't achieve this because of overwhelming family responsibilities as we have four children in school. With the first and second transfers, we managed to build a two bedroom house structure that we are looking forward to complete in the near future."
