"Lack of job is the challenge I am currently facing. I do casual jobs earning approximately $20 per month which caters for food only. This has affected me such that I have a grandson who under me failed to join form one this year due to lack of school fees."

Ghasia
received a $25 eighteenth payment.
"My main goal is to see my children go to school without being sent home for school fees. I currently have seven children; six are in school and one is yet to start, getting money for the their school fees had been quite a challenge. I, therefore, plan to save every part of the transfers that I will be receiving from GiveDirectly and add to any little amount that I would be lucky to get so that whenever school is required, I would not have a hard time looking for any amount of money."

Hadija
received a $25 tenth payment.
"The house that I previously lived in collapsed in June last year, a situation that forced my family to move into a small house that we operated as a kitchen due to the lack of enough to set up a new house. It had always been a challenge for me owing to the fact that I have grown up children. My goal was therefore to have a new two-roomed house and I have started working towards it by saving part of my transfers and I believe that before the year ends, I shall have a better place to live in."

Margaret
received a $25 tenth payment.
"My main goal is to educate my children to a higher level. I currently have four school-going children but the journey had never been that easy due to the financial challenges that my wife and I face, but despite all that, I had never given up. I, therefore, plan to be spending part of my monthly transfers on reducing the huge balance at school and also buying a goat every month that would help cater for their school fees in the future."

Josphat
received a $25 tenth payment.
"My main goal is to own a better house. My family currently lives in a small house and with the growing population, it had become pretty hard to operate. I, therefore, want to construct a bigger house that would have enough space, and to achieve this, I plan to continue buying livestock to add to the ones that I already have and later sell them in order to get the money that would help me in bringing up the house."

Omar
received a $25 tenth payment.
"My main goal is to have my own house. Considering my age, I always feel like it is high time for me to own a house because I have been sleeping in one of my uncle’s house, a situation that had never been so good to me. I have started saving for this project and I want to ensure that going forward, I would be buying materials every month and having them in place so that by the end of August this year, I shall have been done with the project."

"My family is still growing and the house that I currently live in is not in a good state. Whenever it rained, we are always rained on, a situation that makes my children contact certain diseases. My goal is to have a better house and I plan to save part of my monthly transfers that would help me achieve that goal. I would start by buying a few materials and I know that by the end of the year, I shall have commenced the construction."

Karisa
received a $25 eighteenth payment.
"My main goal is always to ensure that my family live a good life despite the frequent challenges that we face. I have school-going children and it had always not been easy to get the money to fully pay for their school fees and this had been something that I would want to eradicate. My plan was therefore to keep livestock as many as I could so that I would sell them in the future whenever I am faced with financial challenges and get the money to cater for the needs. To achieve this, I would ensure that I buy at least one goat every month with the transfers that I would be receiving."

Stephen
received a $392 initial payment.
"My first priority after receiving the transfer was to pay my children's fees so that they could continue their education without interruptions due to fees. When I got the transfer, I spent KES 20000 on their fees and went shopping for new school uniforms and stationery for them. After paying the fees, I bought a new mattress for KES 15000 to replace the old one, which had worn out and could no longer provide a comfortable night's sleep. I am finally sleeping well on my new mattress. In addition, I paid KES 10,000 to settle my dowry, which had been outstanding for a long time. This has allowed me to maintain good relations with my in-laws, as I have fulfilled my obligation. Finally, I spent the remaining funds on food for my family, ensuring that my household did not go hungry. We had enough food to last us months."
