"I've Planned to spend 20 thousand Liberian Dollars on planks sawing; the rest of my money will be used on gas and workmanship for the same planks processing. The planks will be used to make my doors and also roof my new house. I decided to build a house with the money because where I stay presently is a family house, but as a man, I need my own property which will have me earn respect in the community. As I don't have my own place to stay now, people do not listen to me when I speak. There is lack of respect."

"On February 23, around 4:00 p.m., I received a message confirming the receipt of my first transfer from GiveDirectly. I confirmed it with excitement because I had expected it within the stated range of dates in the middle of that month. I was at home with my children when I received a message, and I was so happy that I could not withdraw the same day, but I shared the news with my family members and went to pick it up the next day from a nearby shopping center."

"My children and grandchildren have consistently found enough food in my household since the first transfer. They are no longer concerned that I will go to bed hungry, and they are no longer required to bring food because they are confident that I will not go hungry. This was not the case for a long time, and I am grateful for the significant difference in my daily life."

"My family of seven had been living in a small house, with the five children moving out every night to a small store where they would put their bedding on the floor and fold it up every morning. It has been a bad experience for them because they could not study in the evenings in confined spaces, and their bedding was getting dirty more frequently due to the dust in the cramped store. The first transfer was a relief because it allowed me to renovate the old house we lived in and added an extra room for my children. I am glad the materials I had been buying in bits came in handy and that I had to spend $180 on labor charges, which were significantly increased when we got the money. Removing the entire roof and changing the model of the house cost me a lot of money, but  I am glad that my children will be able to move in once the floors are finished. In addition, I used the remaining funds to purchase food for my family."

"More than half of my transfer was used to purchase assorted goods for my new business. Some of the things I procured include but not limited to fish, non alcoholic drinks, fufu, etc. Business is very important in a man's life, because it grows money and sustains you once it is done well. This is the reason why I spent my transfer in opening a new business to help my money grow and take care of my needs even after GiveDirectly is gone. I also used 10 thousand Liberian Dollars to pay my two girls school fees in Harper City, Maryland County. My oldest daughter is 16 years old attending Dominion Institute whilst my younger daughter is 14 years attending Fatima High school in Harper; both in 8th grade. My children will be the reflection of GiveDirectly after they graduate from high school; I will boast of GiveDirectly being the support system of my children's education because without them, my kids would be sitting at home by now. I spent my GiveDirectly money on their tuition due to the fact that they will improve my life and theirs once they are educated."

"At the moment, I intend to invest in livestock, specifically goats. I chose goats because they are less expensive to purchase and can withstand the harsh climatic conditions in our area. To accomplish this, if all goes well, I intend to buy a goat in every transfer I receive from now on. Because goats reproduce more quickly, I believe they will multiply to allow me to have a larger herd to sell in the future to make a larger investment."

"Despite the demands of my family, I intend to fixate on livestock farming this year. I currently own a goat and intend to purchase another every two months. This strategy will allow me to have at least five goats by the end of the year. I chose this plan because goats can withstand harsh climatic conditions. They not only withstand drought, but they are also inexpensive to maintain and easily convertible to monetary value due to their ready markets."
