"I used to collect stumps and burn them for charcoal but in December I got an accident that has one of arms in constant pain. I was hit buy a cow which also tramped on me, my hand was in a cast for months but even after the cast was removed I still feel a lot of ain that means I am taking pain killers all the time. I am now unable to engage in this and so I do not have an income. I had hoped to use this money to help improve my house but since I have children in school and a form four who will be finishing school this year I have that plan on pause. I however want to use this money to buy animals such as goats which can reproduce and give more animals that I can sell for money so that I am able to educate my children especially the one in form four."

"I am an animal herder for our family flocks. I do not make any money herding and hence I do not have an income. When I heard I will be receiving money from Givedirectly I decided that I wanted to start something that could help me earn. I have a goal of venturing into chicken business. I want to use some of my transfers to build a chicken coup and then buy chicken and keep them their. I know this is a good business since the chicken I bought in February has already hatched and has 10 chicks now. I want that this chicken can grow in number and I am able to sell them and get profits. This will make me financially independent since all the money I use I keep asking my husband who works in a bakery in the city. I also want to be able to educate my children through this business."

"My spouse and I can barely fit in the tiny grass home where we currently reside. My spouse is a barber and he hardly gets enough money to even put food on the table. In order to make ends meet, I burn and sell charcoal but at times I would go home empty handed. Ever since I started receiving my transfers, I have had the idea of joining a merry go round and save enough money to build my family a big house. In my extended family, we are the only ones who do not have a good house and it is really giving us some sleepless night. I believe I will save enough and before the end of the year, we will have started the process of building our own home. I would also want to go back to school and study hairdressing. With all the passion I have of twisting and styling hair, I will flourish and make it in that field."

Janet
received a $27 sixth payment.
"The only dream I have right now is to complete school with a good grade and open my fashion shop. I will be sewing clothes that I will be selling to my clients at affordable prices and I also ensure I buy a sewing machine that will make my work easier. Life is really becoming tough and it needs tougher people with divided ideas of making it in life. I would also want to start my poultry farm where I will buy a lot of chicken and as I wait for them to hatch I will be selling the other ones. With increased profit, I will be able to build my house and live the kind of life that I have always dreamt of having."

"As a mother, all I ever desire is to see my amazing children complete school and become great people in life. I want to put all my effort into ensuring that they remain in school and pursue their studies. We also want to provide for them a good shelter where after a long day of study they can go home and rest. We currently live in a single roomed muddy house and we would like to build a two room house that is spacious enough for the four of us. After our house construction project, I would want to save enough and start my own kiosk where I will be selling my products to my local people. I am planning to save GiveDirectly's transfers and also work hard by selling and burning charcoal to fasten the whole process. Thank you so much GiveDirectly, it is because of you I can think of ways of bettering my family's lives and my own life."

"I currently buy soap in bulk and divide it and sell it to my villagers. One pack will cost $12 and when I sell it, it does earn me a profit of $5 that is not even enough to sustain my family's needs. I usually pray to Almighty to bless me and help me save enough so that I can be able to start my own kiosk. I want to sell things like kales, cabbages and flour because I believe without food people will not have energy and strength to go on with their lives. With that at least I will make a huge profit and I will be able to help my husband provide for my family, also we can easily pay my bride price and live peacefully with my beloved husband and my one child."

"Life is really difficult and we almost lost interest in living but thanks to GiveDirectly for restoring hope in our lives. I have always dreamt of having my own hotel where I will easily prepare meals and sell them to my customers. Ever since I was a child I have had interest in making food and everyone who tasted my food will really appreciate me for the tasty food. At times, during events in my community, they easily call me and ask me to help them in cooking food like chapati and beef stew that they will feast on and at times they pay me and at times they appreciate me with words of mouth. With all those events that have happened in my life, I came to the conclusion that indeed I have skills and I can utilize them by opening my own hotel. I am planning to save enough so that by the end of this year I will be somewhere in my hotel opening. Thank you so much GiveDirectly for it all."

"My husband sells vegetables and he makes $10 per week and I also sell fish but at times I go home empty handed. Each and everyday, I make sure I do my best so that I may save enough to be able to buy more goats and also be able to feed them. I really want to have as many goats as possible so that I can easily sell them at a profit and be able to buy bulls. The bulls I will buy I can easily use them to till my land and also rent them to my neighbors who will in turn pay me some amount."

"In 2015 I retired from my work because of my age. I have been a faithful servant at a very beautiful hotel that used to pay me a monthly income of $100 that at least helped me cover most of my family's needs.Ever since, I have moved up and down in search of a good job but I was unable to get even one to just help me cover my expenses. I decided to join a construction site so that I can easily settle my bills. I am currently waiting to receive my retirement benefits so that I can save together with what I normally get from GiveDirectly and start my own Hotel. I have had the passion and vision of having my own hotel but due to financial constraints, I was unable. When I start my own business, I will also be able to build my family a very big house and make them have the life they desire."

"The main sources of income for the majority of households in our community have been livestock and subsistence farming. Notwithstanding the fact that weather conditions affect its productivity, which has never been predictable, I had intended to spend more in it with the monthly transfers that I get from GiveDirectly. So far I have managed to buy one goat and added it to the existing ones that I have. I am planning to buy more and more goats so that I can easily sell them on profit. My wife has no job currently and I am planning to open a very good kiosk where she can easily sell things to my villagers. When we both work, it will be easy for us to run and manage all our family's expenses. I am working hard to start both of us work so that we can better our family together."
